Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on
it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it.
Then you will be prosperous and successful. Joshua 1:8
Meditation is a vital activity that every child of God
should practice. The Hebrew word translated meditate in Joshua 1:8 is hagah and
it means to ruminate to mutter, it also means roar thus there are three stages
or level of meditation, each with its unique benefits.
At the first level of meditation, you read the scripture and
quietly ponder over it in your mind. The benefit you derive here is that the Holy
Spirit is able to drive the word of God deep into your spirit. In Mark 4, the
master said these “…these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground who,
when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness, And have no
root in themselves, and so endure but for time..(Mark4:16-17). The folks in
this situation didn’t have the word go down deep into them and this is where
meditation help you.
At the second level of meditation, you quietly mutter to
yourself the thoughts in your mind arising from the first level. At this stage,
the Word has come from the spirit to your lips, it’s become personal to you, beyond
the written pages-it has become ”Rhema ”
to you, which is God’s specific word to you, at a specific time, for a specific
purpose. You cease to see it as the writing of Paul, Peter James or John – you put
your name right in there because God is talking to you, about you.
Finally, at the third level, you talk out loud! This level
will require you to find a place where you can be alone, so you don’t disturb others
with your shouting. The benefit you derive here is that as you roar the word, you
drown every other thought in your consciousness; you shout the devil down and
talk your spirit up!
Now that you know the benefits of meditation,
get start immediately! If you will do this consistently, you will become seasoned
in the word of God, and your success and progress will be evident for all to
see. We have a detailed teaching on this subject in The Rheme of God and it
will be of great benefit to you
